SAFEline Project Launched in Kamenica

The opening meeting of the project "SAFEline: Kamenica – Sarajevo: Digital Safety and Mental Health in Youth" was held at the Technology Park in Kamenica — an initiative aimed at empowering young people through education on digital safety and mental wellbeing.

The project addresses two increasingly important issues in today's digital world: online safety and the mental health of young people. At the same time, the initiative contributes to advancing the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda and the RYCOgnizing YPS initiative, promoting the active role of young people in building peace, resilience and social cohesion in the region.

The project was presented by project manager Arnisa Aliqkaj, who shared with those present the objectives, planned activities and expected impact of the project on young people and local communities. Through regional cooperation, educational workshops and youth engagement, SAFEline aims to create safer digital spaces and support the emotional wellbeing of young people.

The organisers expressed their gratitude to the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO) and the German Government for their support, as well as to partner organisation Udruženje za digitalnu transformaciju and Mr Kemal Kačapor for their cooperation and commitment to carrying out this initiative.

Special appreciation was also extended to the Municipality of Kamenica, particularly Deputy Mayor Arta Bajraliu and Director Selami Klaiqi, along with school principals and psychologists from Kamenica and the surrounding areas for their contribution and support.

As part of the opening activities, a panel discussion was held with professionals and youth representatives, who shared valuable perspectives on cybersecurity, youth wellbeing and digital challenges. The panel included:

Following the opening meeting, a two-day interactive training was organised with young participants from Kamenica and neighbouring municipalities.

The first day of training was devoted to digital safety and led by cybersecurity expert Veton Xhelili. Participants covered topics including online risks, protection of personal data, cybersecurity awareness, and practical ways to use technology more safely and responsibly.

The second day focused on mental health and emotional wellbeing, in a safe and open environment facilitated by psychologist Fjolla Ramadani. Through discussion, reflection and shared experience, participants were encouraged to speak openly about the mental health challenges young people face today.

The workshop was run with an interactive and participatory approach, combining practical exercises, teamwork, discussion and active youth engagement. The energy, openness and collaboration over the two days made this an educational and inspiring experience.

The SAFEline project represents an important step towards empowering young people to build safer digital communities, while promoting awareness of mental health, resilience and inclusion.
