The Capital Investment Facility (CIF) for Sustainable Urban Development is launched

Dec 17, 2021

Ministry of Local Government Administration (MLGA) in cooperation and close partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat Kosovo) and the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (MESPI) held the launch and opening ceremony of the call for proposals for the Capital Investment Facility (CIF).

The ceremony was opened by Deputy General Secretary of MLGA Trim Berisha, the Ambassador of Sweden in Kosovo Karin Hernmarck Ahliny, the Head of UN-Habitat in Kosovo Omar Siddique, the Deputy Minister of MESPI Linda Çavdërbasha, and the Deputy Minister of MLGA Avdulah Djesevic.

This instrument is developed based on the experience that MLGA, UN-Habitat and MESPI had in the field of developing capital projects together with municipalities.

The development of projects will be bottom-up which in itself contains inclusiveness, participation and transparency, thus providing the opportunity to municipalities for construction, physical arrangement of facilities, infrastructure, sustainable services which come from spatial plans and which are beneficial to the environment.

The call is open for 38 municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo, with a focus on the main principles:

Ø  Social cohesion – together we shape co-existence between communities;

Ø  Inter-municipal cooperation – we work across borders for mutual agendas;

Ø  Sustainable urban renewal – we design climate-sensitive and vibrant neighborhoods.

This will be a mutal 4-year Program 2022-2025 and there will be calls on annual basis.
